Principal's Message
Welcome to Luther Burbank Middle School,
As I enter my third year at the helm of the Yellowjacket Nation, I am happy to be a part of a school with a great tradition of high-caliber teachers, award-winning visual and performing arts programs and Career Tech Ed classes that prepare students for high school. With a rise in enrollment of 19.8% and being named the number #1 middle school in Burbank by MyBurbank.com for 2023, LBMS is excited and ready to take on any new challenges.
LBMS has a rich legacy of outstanding educators, and we are proud to announce that the 2024 LBMS Teacher of the Year is Ms. Vicki Thalheimer. Ms. Thalheimer embodies the spirit of teaching, inspiring both her students and her colleagues with her dedication. Her remarkable ability to connect with students, both past and present, speaks volumes about her impact. She not only delivers exceptional instruction but also exemplifies the values of respect and integrity, both in and out of the classroom.
Since the turn of the century, LBMS has been home to outstanding elective programs that cover visual and performing arts, CTE, and world language classes. Mr. Anthony Redman and Ms. Stefanie Enokian have been the directors of the best middle school choir program in the city. Ms. Lisa Raluy and Mr. Lucas Gattuso have created robust Culinary Arts and Digital Media programs respectively. One of the most popular elective classes on campus is Mr. Solorzano’s Spanish class which draws students from all grades and prepares them for the rigors of high school. Lastly, the Engineering/STEAM program at Luther led by Ms. Jessica Schackne has challenged students and sparked curiosity. Ms. Schanckne has taken her classes to the Burbank Tesla facility and Oceanic Insitute. Our diverse elective courses led by exceptional teachers offer students ample opportunities for career exploration and promote representation and empowerment of underrepresented groups.
Along with a strong focus on academics, LBMS faculty and staff stress our CORE values of Respect, Excellence, and Community every day. Our amazing teachers work hard to create an exceptional learning environment for our students. The respectful environment created by our teachers cultivates learning and growth. We create positive relationships and a strong sense of community. Our goal is that all students are compassionate, respectful, and filled with desire to meet new challenges.
Luther Burbank Middle School is a place where exceptional teaching and learning are the norm. I am truly honored to be a part of the Yellowjacket Nation.
Respectfully,
Steven Hubbell
